Barongsai Performance
It feels incomplete to celebrate Chinese New Year without watching a lion dance performance. Aston Priority Simatupang also presents a Barongsai performance from the Siaw Kit Lion Team Barongsai Dance Arts Association on Wednesday, January 29 2025 at 07:30 during breakfast time in the lobby area to the Canary Restaurant.
The term Barongsai is actually only known in Indonesia and is an acculturation of Indonesian and Chinese culture and in 2010 the Barongsai was recognized as Indonesia's Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTB). The word Barongsai is a fragment of the word "Barong" which means Balinese dance art and "Sai" from Hokkien which means lion. In China itself, a similar dance is known as "Wu Shi" and internationally it is called "Lion Dance".
According to Chinese people's beliefs, lions are believed to bring happiness and joy. Therefore, this lion dance is often performed at various important events in the hope of bringing good luck.
